Interesting book series
We checked out an "Everything at 80-90% off!" Borders a few weeks ago, and I picked up The Hero Strikes Back by Moira J Moore on a whim. It looked like a stereotypical magic fantasy book - and it kinda is. Here's where it's not:

1) It's swords & (kinda) sorcery; except they all know that their ancestors came to this world from another on ships with machines. They even have machines as historical artifacts. It's just that they don't work anymore/they don't know how to use them.

2) Throughout the series, the author casually talks about how "this man flirted with main male lead" (or vice versa) and how "these two women shared a kiss", etc. Neither of the main protagonists remain in any type of long-term same sex relationship. However, it was very refreshing how the author puts into her world that same sex relationships - including marriage - are normal. It's not a main part of the plot, per se; it's mostly standard adventure plot, with a lot of relationship type dramas between the main characters, but it's refreshingly there.

There's 6 books in the series. After the first two, it started having the bloody awful romance covers, with quotes from "Romance Reviews Today" on the back, but it's still light sword & sorcery written with a fairly decent touch.
