Dear parents, Whatever possessed you to leave a six-year old child… - Hawk's Eyrie
It's all about releasing your inner sociopath
Dear parents,

Whatever possessed you to leave a six-year old child alone at a National Park? I don't care that it's Yosemite & that you were staying at Curry Village, which should be safe. A six-year old is too young to be left by themselves in that situation. Especially as I didn't come across your crying six-year old at your cabin, but standing in the middle of the Village crying for mommy because she couldn't find her. She (and you) are damn lucky BF & I came across her and not someone else who'd be less... human.

I know it might not look like I was doing much, when you finally wandered by and saw your child; however, I was there keeping her calm, asking her questions about where you or your wife might have disappeared to, while BF was checking your cabin and trying to find a ranger. I deliberately didn't go elsewhere with her, as we were in a prime spot to see everyone coming through the Village area. I didn't stop to help her to win accolades, though it might have behooved you to acknowledge the fact that someone had stopped to help your child, rather than just ignore my presence completely.

BF thinks I should have reamed you up & down. I probably should have. However, the child was there, calming down because at least daddy was there (though she wanted mommy), and I didn't want to wind her up again. Also, I was frankly startled at the fact that you weren't even acknowledging my existence.

I'm sure either you or your wife would have claimed that they told the child where they'd be and to stay put. In fact, I wouldn't be surprised if the child had been told, and then forgotten. However, here's the deal - it's a six-year old. They're not going to necessarily remember squat about that sort of thing, and you don't leave them alone in the woods - ever - even if it seems safe because other people are around. It's a shame that they don't require licenses before they let you have children. Maybe you would have learned some common sense before now.

With disgust,

More likely I think is the child becoming a snack for a wandering bear.

My comment was referring to both human & non-human danger; there's more non-human danger in Yosemite than just bears.

I was referring both to the non-human danger (of which there's more than just bears in Yosemite), the human, and humans acting like they're non-human.
