Her family was at the memorial tonight, and it was nice to meet them. She was religious, and they did an opening and closing prayer in Arabic. Listening, the cadence of the Muslim prayers reminded me of the cadence the Cantor gave the prayers during the High Holiday days. I'm not religious; saying the Mourner's Kaddish for my brother didn't help me at all. However, after I came home, I spent a lot of time finding an audio track of the Mourner's Kaddish that reminded me of my youth. It felt right to do that for her. Perhaps the difference in doing this for her is that she actively believed, while my brother did not.
May peace be upon her.
