Iron Man 3 thoughts
I both liked and disliked the movie, but on the whole I'd fall on the side of liked. Iron Man has never been a favorite of mine outside of a team, but Tony Stark can be fun when done right. RDJ has been a consistently wonderful Tony Stark, but he seemed a bit off in this one. I can't explain it other than timing felt off to me. That being said,

Things I really, really, liked about the movie:
1) The Mandarin was a smokescreen. A wonderful, brilliant, awesome smokescreen. I've never been a huge fan of the Mandarin and the mystical 10 rings, and I was disappointed they were bringing it to the big screen. The fact that the Mandarin was a patsy for the real villain of the piece was perfect. I really enjoyed how they played off of the fears of the US public about Middle Eastern terrorists being smoke and mirrors.

2) AIM. It would have been amusing to see M.O.D.O.K. on the screen, but I liked the fact that they updated it. And got rid of the beekeepers outfit that they use in the comics.

3) Pepper. She might not have been Rescue, but we did get to see her in the armor. Also, instead of Tony fully rescuing her from death, she rescues Tony. It's a nice twist on the usual plot. Speaking of twisting from plot, another reason I liked Pepper in this movie is...

4) Pepper gets injected with Extremis, not Tony. It's a nice twist on the original storyline from Warren Ellis, which - while I own - I still have not read in it's entirety.

It was nice seeing Tony get back to his roots as a mechanic, and the kid - while somewhat cloying - didn't make the movie jump the shark too much. Rhodey was wonderful, but there was very little screen time for him as Iron Patriot. They mentioned Avengers, but didn't harp o n it, which was nice. It was slighly implausible that none of the other Avengers - or S.H.E.I.L.D. - wouldn't have come to help him, but not completely without precedent. The scene at the end with Banner was a perfect endcap to the trilogy.

And on that note, I need to go to bed. What are your thoughts?
