Glad to see that I wasn't the only one in the family to get sucked into buying a new MacBook Pro at this time. :-)

Hah!

It's nice, isn't it? Took me about 2 hours to get everything moved over and set up last night, but I'm already loving it. I will test out how the SD slot works this weekend as I have some pictures to move off a card.

Have you looked at the Trackpad options yet? There's lots of useful looking shortcuts there that I'm going to have to go through and study.

The SD slot is nice -- I have to admit, however, that it threw me a little bit because you just push the card in until it stops. I was expecting some sort of spring-loaded action like in my camera, but there was nothing of the sort.

I considered using Time Machine to transfer everything, but instead opted to freshly install all the applications I actually use, manually transfer the iPhoto and iTunes libraries, and check each remaining document to see if I actually wanted it on the new system as well.

I haven't tried them all yet, but some of the new Trackpad shortcuts are awesome, and a couple of them really make using Safari over Firefox a lot more desirable. However, I still haven't made up my mind in regards this particular choice.

I transferred everything. I'm only one OS behind; I'm not really concerned about needing to update some of the built in apps.

Though it would be nice if they did update Address book. I really like it, but it is pretty primitive, comparatively.

I would have played more with it last night, but after I got done transferring it was already pretty late.

By the way, as part of the transfer, I did a wipe on the old MacBook, reinstalled the original OS, partitioned the hard drive and installled Windows XP via Boot Camp. It has been a fun experiment finding out which of my old XP-based games work under this environment, and as much as I dislike the thought of doing something similar with the MacBook Pro and installing 7 on it, there are some reasons why doing so makes sense. It's probably something I'll do this summer once I can make financial justification to do so.

Huh. That's not a bad idea. Though I'd have to get the fan & case fixed for me to consider doing that seriously.

I have a friend who might take my old Macbook (knowing that they'll have to fix the problems); I'll leave that open as the first option. If that falls through....
