Yesterday, a friend & I added 2,638 comics to my Comic Collectorz account. That's slightly over half of my collection.

This cataloging enabled me to grab out the Orson Scott Card Ultimate Iron Man comics I have, and prepare them for the shredder.

Why am I shredding comics? Well, it's both a long and a short story. The best way to describe it is thus:

When we're talking about my entertainment, I generally don't care what your political or religious views are, until your ass starts hanging out. At that point, I generally don't want to do anything to support you.

There's only three people who really stand out as having jumped the sofa for me: Tom Cruise, Mel Gibson, and Orson Scott Card.

While I support other people's right to read and support what they want (and I highly support libraries having differing viewpoints and books that I might or might not find acceptable for myself and my family), Card's anti-gay marriage religious views that came up during the Prop 8 battle in California two years ago was so vitriolic, that I no longer care how good or bad a writer he is. His writing is now twisted to me, and thus unenjoyable.

I could give away the comics I have[1], but I don't want to get anyone else interested in Card. I know that he won't fade away into obscurity anytime soon, but that doesn't mean I need to help him find new readers.

As BF enjoys saying, "Raptors like to shred". And this raptor intends to shred what she's got.

[1]The few books we have of his are BF's, and it's his right to do what he wants with them.

I've got no comment on what you're doing with your books. I'd just like to say, I'm going to start using "Jumped the Sofa" in casual conversation from now on. :-)

Heh. BF will be pleased to know that!

I hear ya. I generally am not that interested in the opinions of my media purveyors, but I feel such genuine revulsion towards Card now that I can't read things by him. It was a devastating discovery for me, because it's (still) hard to believe that someone could write something as moving and interesting as Ender's Game, and be such a complete twat of a human being.

Yay! I once loved Ender's Game and other novels, but now I never want to give him another penny. You're right that I don't have to agree with your politics to enjoy you, but his level of loathsomeness is too much.

I've heard from a, shall we say, ferret lover that you and smolder will probably be visiting up here sometime soon. Shall I save the shredding for when y'all are visiting? To share in the fun?

Because it'll be close to the time of the 2nd surgeryx, there's a really good chance I wouldn't be able to leave the house at that point, anyway.

Yes, we'll be there on St. Patrick's Day and just after that. We hadn't scheduled a rental car until the end of the trip (so we can go see the Ewoks in Marin) since I found public transit so much easier than driving in SF, but I imagine we can get it a day earlier so we can make it to your townhouse. We'll talk when it is closer to the event.
