Seriously, Whole Foods, tell me about it. Because whatever it is you made - it's not challah. Too dense, too salty, & too sweet.

Gah. Now I'm craving good challah & I can't seem to find any in the Bay Area.

[On another note, Whole Foods, curtido is Salvadorean salsa, not coleslaw. And they're called Pupusas, not Salvadorean Quesadillas. Sheesh.]

Curious, the WFM at Showers and El Camino does call them pupusas, but it doesn't carry the curtido at all that I could find.

That's the one I was at. It had curtido that day, and, well... yeah. Note that this was on the hot bar, not what they sell in the refrigerator section.

It was painful to look at.

I haven't had a good challah OR an awesome Ruben since Brauer's Deli - the only REAL Jewish deli in town - closed up about 15 years ago.

I found a pareve kosher bakery today, so my itch has finally been scratched!

And pardon me while I snicker at the idea of good challah in Ohio. It's not really known as a high density Jewish area.

Hah! It really does depend on where in Ohio you're talking about. Beachwood, OH, for instance, outside of Cleveland, is known as THE Jewish community in Ohio.

Here in Toledo, the Jewish community is concentrated largely in the West End and in Sylvania, with the four area synagogues in those areas. We *are* a University town, so you find lots of things here that you won't find in, say, Lima or Kansas (yes, Kansas, OH. Three cows and a stoplight.)

Brauer's was up by the Arts Center, and was constantly crowded. My heart just broke when the Brauer kids decided they didn't want to carry on the family business when their Dad died. Beachwood is too far to go for a sandwich. *sigh*

That reminds me of a time I went into Andronico's and the deli woman assured me that they had "fresh" kim chi.
