My state is burning
And burning and burning and burning... Calfire has up a map of all the current fires in California.

Elath, the air quality around the Bay Area is bad. And I think our plans to go to the Shastas for the 4th of July are going to be scrapped.

It's very odd to look at a map of California fires, and not see them all south of Santa Barbara. In fact, are there ANY fires currently in SoCal?

Not of any significance. It's the upper part of the state that's in bad shape right now. 1,100 fires total as of this morning.

How can we tell you're not from California?

You call it Cali.

This is the season for the high mountains to have a lot of late afternoon thunderstorms. Most of these started from lightening strikes after a dry(ish) winter.

For once, it seems that we're not burning due to arson. Yay!?

I know some natives of this state that sometimes call it "Cali". And not even in a mocking way, as I sometimes do.

Oh, and your spell-check is wrong. "Lightning" is indeed a word; it's the stuff that goes along with thunder. "Lightening" is what you're doing when you're pouring white paint into some other color of paint. (First ran into that one about 16 years ago, and it still irritates me.)

The rainstorm that blew through here the other weekend was kinda strange. I could see the water falling from the clouds, but I could also see that it wasn't reaching the ground. It was simply evaporating on the way down.
